Privacy Notice
The short version
We collect the least we can. Your documents are checked, never stored. Your mobile number is never stored, only a one-way code that stops the same number being used twice. Exact pickup points are deleted a week after the ride. Other members see your first name, the areas you commute between, your verification badges, and, if you drive, your car. Nothing is sold or used for advertising.
Who is responsible
Raghav Jhamb, an individual based in Delhi NCR, is the data fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the grievance officer for this notice. Contact for anything about your data: hello@dawncarpool.in.
What we collect and why
Email address: to sign you in and confirm, where it is a workplace address, where you commute from. Shown to no one; a workplace badge shows the domain only.
Name: your first name is shown to members you ride with. Your name as it appears on your ID is kept for the verification record and shown to no one.
Mobile number: confirmed by a one-time code so we know you hold it. The number itself is not stored. We keep a one-way code derived from it (a keyed hash) solely to ensure one number maps to one account.
Identity verification: we confirm that a government ID belongs to a woman and that the person in a live selfie is a real person. We keep only the outcome and the time. We do not store your Aadhaar number, document image, selfie or face data.
Commute: the home and workplace areas you choose. Other members see the area names and an approximate location (rounded to about 500 metres). Your exact pickup point is visible only to you and, once a seat is accepted, to that driver, and is deleted seven days after the ride date.
Car details, if you drive: model is shown to riders; the number plate is shown only to a rider whose seat you have accepted.
Rides, seat requests, ratings and compliments: to run the service and show members how others experienced riding with them. Ratings are anonymous to the person rated.
Safety events: if you use the help button or flag a member, we keep a record for 180 days to act on it and to protect other members.
Device notification token: to send ride updates to your phone. Removed when you sign out or delete your account.
Area-level demand: we keep anonymous counts of which areas people commute between, with no identifier, to decide where Dawn should grow.
Legal basis
Your consent, given when you create your account and complete verification. You can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account; the service cannot operate without the data above, so withdrawal ends your membership.
Who processes data for us
Supabase (database and authentication, servers in Mumbai, India); Twilio (one-time codes by SMS or WhatsApp); Resend (sign-in emails); Expo and Apple (app delivery and push notifications). Identity documents are verified against the issuing authority’s digital signature on our own servers. Each processor receives only what its task needs and is bound by contract to use it for nothing else. We do not sell or share personal data for advertising.
How long we keep it
Exact pickup points: 7 days after the ride date. Seat requests and rides that never happened: 90 days. Safety event details: 180 days. Everything else: until you delete your account. A nightly job enforces these limits automatically.
Your rights
You can see and correct your profile in the app. You can delete your account and all your data from Profile at any time. You can ask us about your data or raise a grievance at the contact email; we respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access rules in the database allow each member to see only what this notice says she can. Verification outcomes can be written only by our verification service, never by the app. We review dependencies and access regularly and will notify you and the Board of any breach affecting you, as the law requires.
Children
Dawn is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
We will show material changes in the app before they take effect. Last updated 2 November 2026.
